A vacuum does not ‘suck’
When a container is evacuated, the air pressure outside still pushes on its walls. If the structure cannot withstand that pressure difference, it buckles inward. The inward motion is therefore driven by external pressure, not a mysterious pulling force from the vacuum.
Explosions have different mechanisms
A pressure vessel can burst from overpressure without chemical explosives. Combustible gas can deflagrate or detonate. Batteries can undergo thermal runaway. Each mechanism has different pressure-rise rates and hazards.
So “explosion” describes the violent outward event, not one single chemical process.
Implosions can throw material outward too
After a structure collapses inward, parts can rebound, fragment or be carried by rapidly moving fluid. This is why standing near an imploding vessel can still be dangerous even though the initial structural motion is inward.

Can a tank implode?
Yes. A tank designed for positive pressure can buckle if it is drained or cooled without adequate venting and internal pressure falls below atmospheric pressure.
Is breaking a light bulb an implosion?
Some evacuated glass devices can collapse inward initially, followed by fragments and gas movement; ordinary bulb breakage is not always usefully described that way.
Is a submarine collapse an implosion?
A deep-water pressure-hull collapse driven by external water pressure is a classic implosion scenario.
Is an explosion always caused by fire?
